Western softball kicks off 2019 with dominating doubleheader sweep of Pratt JC 16-1 and 12-0.
Altus, Okla. - The Pioneers wasted little time getting their season started off right as Rosi Ward (Fr, Cache, OK) singled in the bottom of the first and Alexis Perry (Fr, Mangum, OK) put the Pioneers on top for good as she blasted a 2 run home run to right field. Every single Pioneer collected a hit highlighted by Perry and Cheyenne Mahy (So, Atwater, CA) going deep and 8 extra base hits total for the Pioneers bringing the grand total to 18 hits. Mahy went the distance in the run- rule shortened contest allowing one unearned run on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and a walk to move to 1-0 on the young season. This victory ended a long losing streak for WOSC (53 games) dating back to the 2017 season.
Raegyn Parrish (So, Huntington, TX) tossed a 2 hit gem on the way to a 4.5 inning contest that never saw a Pratt JC player reach third base. Parrish struck out 5, allowed zero runs, and walked only 1 batter to pick up her first victory of the season. The Pioneers pounded out 16 hits with Rosi Ward (Fr, Cache, OK), Marilyn Alvarado (Fr, Athens, TX), Justice Frazier (So, Morris, OK), and Makenna Aitson (Fr, Ft. Cobb, OK) each having multiple hits in the contest. Aitson homered in her very first collegiate at bat as the Pioneers jumped out quick on Pratt JC and never looked back. The victory moved the Pioneers to 2-0 on the season and they resume play this Friday and Saturday in Cisco, TX.
